Koreatown Youth and Community Center

We are KYCC

This video was screened during a Clippers game at the Los Angeles Staples Center. Koreatown Youth and Community Center was a co-sponsor for a portion of the multicultural programming.

We produced a 30 second spot which advertises the breadth of KYCC’s services and beneficiaries.

The Good Life

Whether it’s planting a tree to beautify our neighborhoods, educating our youngest children at our trilingual preschool, providing fresh vegetables for families or growing a small business into a thriving enterprise, KYCC believes that doing good for others is the path to a meaningful life.

For over 44 years, KYCC has provided services for economically disadvantaged immigrant families in Los Angeles. We started out with youth after-school programs in the 1970s and expanded to over 25 programs at 9 locations across Koreatown.

Groundmaking produced “The Good Life” video as part of their 2019 holiday fundraising campaign.

Emergency Food Delivery Program

Groundmaking produced this video about KYCC's Emergency Food Delivery Program. When the coronavirus pandemic hit Los Angeles in March 2020, KYCC quickly launched an emergency Hot Meal and Grocery Delivery Program to provide immediate food assistance for residents of KYCC’s affordable housing units as well as many elders abiding by the Safer-At-Home ordinance in the Koreatown and Pico-Union area.

Take Care of Yourself, Too.

KYCC provides mental health support for families through their Clinical Services program. Asian and Latino families throughout Los Angeles, especially immigrant families, tend to disregard mental health as an issue, stigmatizing stress as a point of weakness or poor character. Unfortunately, young children bear the brunt of these stubbornly held beliefs, resulting in higher rates of child abuse.

Groundmaking was asked to produce a short public service video which encouraged mothers to take care of themselves and to seek support if they are feeling overwhelmed.

Beyond a Home

This is a story about Sharon and her two children, Sharese and Shawn, who have been living at The Menlo Family Apartments for almost four years. They lost their home in South Central Los Angeles as a result of a bad subprime mortgage. Thanks to the Menlo Family Apartments and the many services provided by KYCC, Sharon has been able to get back on her feet and provide a brighter future for her children.

In 2013, KYCC opened the Menlo Family Apartments on the border of Pico-Union and Koreatown in Los Angeles. The 60-unit building provides housing to families in need and the Koreatown Youth and Community Center (KYCC) offers onsite programs and services at the Menlo Family Center. The center contains over 4,000 square feet of services space and community rooms on the ground floor. Services, provided by KYCC, include afterschool programs, life skills training, financial literacy and parenting, and mental health counseling and treatment.
